Amaan Ali is a documentary photographer and filmmaker whose practice investigates environmental degradation, political violence, and displacement through long-term, research-led projects. His work operates at the intersection of ecology and power, examining how landscapes, bodies, and memory are shaped by extraction, borders, and systems of control.

His projects have been published by major international platforms including The Guardian, BBC, L’œil de la Photographie, and Earth Photo, and exhibited at institutions and festivals such as the Royal Geographical Society (London), Arles Photography Festival (Art Icon – Visages), Officine Fotografiche (Rome), The Reference (Seoul), and Photomonth London.

Ali is the recipient of the Young Environmental Photographer of the Year (EPOTY 2021) award by Nikon Europe, a Life Framer Awards winner, and an Earth Photo finalist. His recent project, Ruins of a Body, combines documentary film and photography to explore grief, resistance, and political memory through the life of Iranian activist Azamat Azhdari, in the context of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement.

He holds an MA in Photography from Kingston School of Art and is currently developing new work rooted in long-term engagement with landscapes of extraction and environmental crisis.
